Rory: "... say goodbye to Daisy Miller!"

"Daisy Miller" is Henry James's 1858 novella about a young American girl travelling in Europe who is falsely accused of impropriety by snobbish expatriate social climbers.

Sookie: "Call me Belinda, because my lips are sealed!"

Belinda Carlisle was the lead singer of the Go-Go's, an 80s group who recorded the hit song "Our Lips Are Sealed".

Al Gilbert-Singer/tap-dancer famous in the 1940s and '50s...would not be associated with contemporary sexuality.

E! True Hollywood Story- The E! network's tell-all tale of Hollywood sucess and inevitab;e heartache, drug problems, and sex addiction.

Henry James-19th century novelist of Daisy Miller and Portrait of a Lady, two famous novels in which a young American woman encounters trials and tribulations in Europe.

The Polyphonic Spree- A popular contemporary band comprised of two dozen members dressed in flowing white robes who are known for their hippe-esque lyrics and sensibilities.

Titile: Written in the Stars

"Written in the Stars" is a song written by Elton John and Tim Rice for the Broadway musical "Aida".

Ava Gardner- Described as the "most beautiful animal in the world", and the woman Frank Sinatra pined after for years.

Delta Dawn- Ethereal helen Reddy song that hit #1 in 1973.

Faulkner- Nobel Prize-winning author famous for writing The Sound and the Fury in the early 20th century.

Hello! Magazine- Britis-produced gossip magazine that competes with the National Enquirer for scoops on celebrity hook-ups and break-ups.

Judi Dench- One of England's most renowned actresses; has a great affinity for roles in which she condesecends to the "little" people; berates James Bond regularly as the most recent incarnation of "M".

Patsy Cline- Iconic female singer whose most famous song is the gorgeous balla, Crazy.

Paul Thomas Anderson- Popular contemporary director of Boggie nights and Magnolia; known for the lengthy and rambling nature of his films.

Robert Frost- One of America's most renowned poets; known for describing the innate beauty in nature.

"Shaken not stirred"- James Bond's signature phrase and the only way a chilled martini should be prepared.

91. Tippecanoe and Taylor, Too

Episode Title: "Tippecanoe and Taylor, Too!"

The title of this episode is a play on words of "Tippecanoe and Tyler, Too!" the first political slogan in American history, and the rallying cry in the successful 1840 Presidential campaign of William Henry Harrison and John Tyler. When Harrison died less than a month after taking office, Tyler became the first Vice President to become President as a result of the death of his predecessor. Tippecanoe was a Shawnee settlement in Indiana which was destroyed in a battle by troops led by Harrison.

Lorelai: "He just stood outside all night playing 'In Your Eyes' on a boombox."

This references the famous scene in Cameron Crowe's "Say Anything" when Lloyd Dobler woos Diane Court by playing Peter Gabriel on a boombox.

Believe It or Not- Schmasltzy '80s soft rock ballad by Joey Scarbury; also served as thetheme song for the TV series Greatest American Hero.

He just stood outside all night playing In You Eyes on a boom box.- A refrence to an incredibly romantic scene from the '80s film Say Anything in which John Cusack's character, Lloyd Dobler, stands outside his love's house blaring a heart-wrenching Peter gabriel song.

James Joyce- One of Ireland's most lauded writers.

Kabbalah- The mystical offshot of Judaism that's sweeping the tabloids thanks to Madge, Demi, Ashton, and any rising actor looking for some ink.

Papa Doc- Francois Duvalier; president of Haiti before becoming dictator in 1964.

Swept Away- A Guy Ritchie film, starring his wife, madonna, that was brutalized by almost every critic on the planet.

Tae Bo- The music-oriented kick-boxing fad workout popularized by former martial arts film star, Billy Blanks.

Lorelai: "Like, Jodie Foster?"

Jodie Foster starred in the movie "Panic Room", playing a woman who escapes into a panic room with her daughter when their home is invaded by thieves.

Lorelai: "Can you de-Mensa that referance?"

Mensa is a highly prestigious organization of geniuses.

An Officer and a Gentleman- Taylor Hackford's 1982 film about an officer candidate and his factory-worker girlfriend that ends with him carrying her away from her blue-collar blues.

Auto-Focus- Bio-film outlining the amateur pornography and sex life of Hogan's heros star, Bob Crane.

Captain Hook- Peter Pan's pirate nemesis; named for the hook in place of his severed hand.

Last Tango in Paris- A sexually explicit film in which Marlon Brando bares all.

Lurch- the large and monstrous family butler on The Addams Family.

Petunia Pig- Animated female pig from the Looney Tunes cartoons; Porky Pig's girlfriend.

Pippi Longstocking- The red-haired, horizontal-pony0tailed, horse-lifting heroine of the Adventures of Pippi Longstocking.

Tex Watson- Convicted murderer serving life in prison for his role in the Manson family murders.

93. Norman Mailer, I'm Pregnant!

Anarchist's Cookbook- Controversial book by William Powell. The recipe book for drugs and explosive devices was meant to be a protest against the Vietnam War.

"If you build it they will come"- A mystical line from the film Field of Dreams instucting Kevin Costner to transform a portion of his farm into a baseball diamond.

Lars Ulrich- Drummer from theband Metallica; instrumental in bringing down Napster, a file sharing server.

Mothman Prophecies- 2002 film starring Richard Gere as a reporter drawn to a strange series of events.

Norman Mailer- Famous American writer who was crucial to the innovation of the non-fiction novel.

94. You Jump, I Jump, Jack

Episode Title:

The title of this episode is a quote from "Titanic" (1997).

Logan: Hunter S. Thompson lived with the Hell's Angels

Hunter S. Thompson's first book, "Hell's Angels", described his experience living with the Hell's Angels motorcyclists. Thompson created the concept of "gonzo journalism" wherein journalists live the experiences and then tell the stories from their points of view. Thompson was so much a part of the group that he was hospitalized after being beat up by some members, which is referenced by Rory's comment "just because I didn't get beat up by the Hell's Angels".

Charles Kuralt- Award-winning American journalist and former host of CBS Sunday Morning.

George Plimpton- Journalist for Sports Illustrated; famous for participating in his stories; author of Paper Lion.

"I am the Oracle"- The oracle is the all-knowing, all-seeing computer program embodied in the form of an elderly African-American woman in the film The Matrix.

Kalashnikov- A russian assult rifle.

Motorhead- Bone-crushingly loud metal band.

Barefoot Contessa- Food Network program hosted by Ina Garten.

George & Rosemary Clooney- George Clooney, actor and world-renowned leadign man, is the nephew of famous jazz singer Rosemary Clooney.

Jake LaMotta- Boxing legend who had issueswith spousal abuse: the subject of Scorses's bio-pic, Raging Bull.

Abe Vigoda- Journeyman character actor best known for playing "Fish" on Barney Miller, and in the spin-off Fish

97. But Not as Cute as Pushkin

Rory: "It's 11 o'clock at night! Who are you planning on hooking up with, Spike and Drusilla?"

Spike and Drusilla are two of the vampire characters on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" which formerly aired in the "Gilmore Girls" time slot. Danny Strong, who plays Doyle, was a recurring character on "Buffy", and executive producers Jane Espenson and Rebecca Kirshner are former members of the "Buffy" writing staff.

Rory: "But not as cute as Pushkin."

Aleksandr Pushkin was a famous nineteenth century Russian novelist whose most famous works were "Boris Godunov" and "Eugene Onegin", one of which Rory was probably holding in her hands as she made the statement.

Lorelai: "Great, then I'll hop a fence and get Richard Widmark to sign my grapefruit"

This refers to the classic "I Love Lucy" episode "The Tour," broadcast May 30, 1955. When Lucy and Ethel take a tour of movie star homes, Lucy falls off Richard Widmark's fence reaching for a souvenir grapefruit and gets trapped in Widmark's back yard.

Bob Graham- U.S. Senator from Florida from 1987-2005; has a quirky habit of keeping color-coded notebooks outlining his daily activities.

Milton Berle- Uncle Milty; popular '50s & '60s era variety showman famous for skits done in drag.

Sabrina- A 1954 film starring Humphrey Bogart, William Holden, and Audrey Hepburn.

Theigh-Master- A gimmicky infomercial contraption that is supposed to ensure shapely legs for the user; endorsed by Suzanne Somers.

Willy Loman- Title character in the award-winning Arthur Miller play, Death of a Salesman.

Lorelai: "Or at least coconuts to bang together."

Rory asked if the militia in the reenactment should have horses. Lorelai's response refers to "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," in which King Arthur and his men use coconuts to imitate horses.

Baretta- '70s television series about the life of Detective Tony Baretta and his bird. Baretta was played by Robert Blake.

"Wedding Bell Blues" refers to a 1967 hit by The 5th Dimension.

Lorelai: "Its a prentend wedding! J.Lo has 'em all the time!"

Lorelai was talking about all of Jennifer Lopez's weddings only lastly approxiametly 6 monthes to the dancer Chris Judd, P. Diddy, almost Ben Affleck,and now Marc Anthony!!

Lorelai: Ab-Fab, sweetie darling

Refers to the BBC comedy series Absolutely Fabulous, also known as AbFab. The queen of excess, Edina "Eddy" Monsoon and her Ivana Trump lookalike best friend Patsy "Pats" Stone, frequentlly call each other "sweetie darling."

Rory/Lorelai: R: I'm gonna go change. L: Come back as Thora Birch

This make have been a reference to the fact that Rory (Alexis Bledel) and actress Thora Birch (American Beauty)(http://www.moviemaze.de/celebs/0070/main.jpg) and Alexis Bledel look a lot alike

The Arcade Fire- Indie rock band from Montreal, Canada.

Bugsy Malone- A fictional mobster from a film by the same name.

Logan's friend: "Since when did you become Tipper Gore?"

Logan's friend asks to change the music and the snide comment about Tipper Gore relates to the fact Tipper headed a committee to put parental warnings on music she and her committee deemed "inappropriate."

Logan: "Rory Gilmore, as I live and breathe."

In "The Office" reunion special, Part 2, Gareth says "Dawn Tinsley, as I live and breathe," to Dawn when she returns to the office after nearly three years. During "Come Home," Rory told Logan he was missing out because he'd never seen any episodes of "The Office." Guess he finally saw them.

Rory: "They will feel the wrath of the Green Destiny."

Rory quotes the film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". Green Destiny was the name of a mystical sword, and the young princess who wielded it was virtually invincible.

Bee Gees- Three hugely sucessful brothers who made up the musical trio Bee Gees.

    Mordor is the place where the great Ring was forged. In order to destroy the ring, Frodo (with the help of Sam) must cast the ring into the "red fires of Mordor"

Rory: "D'oh!"

    Refers to Homer Simpson's characteristic utterance of annoyance or anger (she says it as she drops her change at the coffee-cart).

Lorelai: I Netflixed all three Stars movies.

    Netflix is a movie rental service in which, for twenty or so dollars a month, they send you three DVD's in the mail. When you finish them, you send them back and they'll send you three more.

Lorelai: Skip's back in shorts...It's the Reno 911! short shorts. A little disturbing.

    Reno 911! is a show on Comedy Central created by and starring Thomas Lennon, who played the short shorts wearing Lt. Dangle.

Gisele Bundchen- Supermodel and actress; longtime girlfriend of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Lieberman- Al Gore's running mate in the 2000 Presidential Election.

Pontius Pilate- Governor of Judea who gave the order for jesus to be crucified.

the line refers to Cousin Eddie Johnson (Randy Quaid) dumping his RV toilet contents into the local sewer drain in the cult film National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

The 25,000 Pyramid- Popular game show once hosted by Dick Clark; the current incarnation is hosted by Donny Osmond and goes by the shorter, hipper Pyramid

Gogo- The mace-wielding schoolgirl from Kill Bill.

Harvey Weinstein- Former head of Miramax Films and ardent Quintin Tarantino supporter.

Condoleezza Rice to my Barbara Boxer- Senator Barbara Boxer famously laid into Condoleezza Rice about her role in the was in Iraq during Rice's January '05 Senate confirmation hearing.

Etch A Sketch- A popular drawing toy that first came to prominence in the '60s

Garrison Keillor- Founder and host of the American Public media Radio program A Prairie Home Companion; notoriously long-winded.

Maxell Tape Ad- A famous ad campaign for Maxell Audio Tapes that pictures a long-haired leather-clad male sitting in front of his speakers whilst his hair is blown straight back.

Hotel Rawanda- a very heavy film starring Don Cheadle based around the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

Kropog- A fictional unit of distance, named after a man who graduated from Yale in 1944.
